Edition two of character blogs is up and this time the featured character is . . . *drum roll* . . . Blake Belladonna.

Now, Blake is an interesting and complex character, and I could write pages and pages about her, but I’ll try and keep it to a minimum.

Let’s start with a very predominant and important thing in Blake’s trailer, her relationship with Adam.  I think it’s made quite obvious that the two of them are close, and have been partners for a long time.  They work in almost perfect sync during combat, and they always seem to have each other’s backs.  However, she and Adam seem to have a few moral differences as is evident by Blake’s resentment to Adam wanting to blow up the train with everyone aboard.  This tells me that while Blake is willing to break the law to survive, she won’t sacrifice innocent lives.

The next point of discussion is Blake’s combat ability.  It’s obvious that Blake is no stranger to fighting, and in fact it seems to come naturally to her.  If the lyrics of “From Shadows” are anything to go by, it sounds like she’s struggled and fought for a long time.  Obviously the destiny mentioned in the lyrics is an important motivator to Blake, it driving her to break the law.  I doubt the attempted train robbery with Adam was her first criminal act.  Her “after image” technique, coupled with her fighting stances and the way she moves in combat makes me think Blake is some sort of ninja or bandit.  She, and Adam too, don’t seem like mercenaries, selling their skills for money.  They seem more motivated by honour and to an extent revenge, rather than money.

In the few moments of the trailer that Blake isn’t fighting, she seems calm, confident with an edge of humor and even a little reflective.  The way she tells Adam to not be so dramatic makes me wonder if she teases him like that often.

So, to sum things up, there is still a lot of uncertainty and shadow (forgive the terrible pun) surrounding Blake, but I think joining team RWBY (willingly or begrudgingly) will give Blake a way to reclaim what she’s lost and what was taken from her without compromising who she is and what she believes in.  It may also give her a way to repair her now fractured and severed friendship with Adam.
