Salem's Inner Circle[]

Tyrian is a member of Salem's group. He was freed from a prison transport being sent to Atlas due to a Grimm attack on the ship sent by Salem. Afterwards, she recruited him into her inner circle. Although he doesn’t get along with any of Salem's other followers, due to his psychotic and bloodthirsty nature. He also appears to be the only member of Salem's Inner Circle that knows that Salem's real goal is destroy the world, rather than create a new one.

Salem's Inner Circle[]

Salem[]

Tyrian is obsessively loyal toward Salem, to the point of worshiping her, even referring to her in "Tipping Point" as a goddess to whom he belongs.

After becoming too wounded to win the fight against Qrow and Team RNJR, he tells himself that she will forgive him before retreating. This indicates that he is afraid of Salem.

V4 11 00011

Tyrian loses favor with his "goddess".

In "Taking Control", his extreme loyalty to Salem manifests itself dramatically. When he realizes that he has disappointed her, Tyrian suffers a mental breakdown, crying in despair and taking out his pain and anger out on an attacking Beowolf that he delivers a sadistic beating to.

In "Worst Case Scenario", upon meeting Salem for the first time after being rescued from a prison transport, the first words he uttered were "Beautiful".

Despite his psychotic demeanor, Salem's approval is the be-all and end-all for Tyrian. To him, she truly is the divine, and her will and approval are a little short of doctrines in his deranged mind. Despite his worshipful devotion to Salem, he is all too aware of her power and temper, fleeing with his colleagues from their ruler when Hazel reveals to her of Ozpin's reincarnation. This shows that Tyrian, in spite of his obvious psychosis, is sane enough to fear for his own survival when confronted by his master's unleashed fury.

As revealed in "War", unlike the majority of Salem's subordinates, Tyrian himself is fully aware of her desire to destroy the world. In fact, this very reason is why Tyrian chooses to worship her, finding her desire to destroy and bring the end to everything "beautiful" and views her as destruction incarnate.

Arthur Watts[]

V7 09 00028

Tyrian and Watts working together in making chaos in Mantle

Despite their vastly different personalities and aspirations, the two were arguably the most effective of Salem's teams.

Tyrian worked together with Watts in Atlas to bring about the fall of the Kingdom. The two worked well together with Tyrian being the brawn in the dynamic to Watts's intellect and hacking. Watts was shown to complement Tyrian's skills and proficiency in causing destruction, proving to be one of the few people who can calm his explosive fits.

Watts was also the one who made Tyrian's prosthetic tail after Ruby Rose cut his off.

Tyrian was shown to highly respect Watts' abilities and later complemented him on their success in destroying and weakening Atlas. Despite this, Tyrian also showed little to no remorse or empathy for Watts' apparent capture and instead deemed it a necessary sacrifice.

Later in "Midnight", despite having been captured, Watts was shown to still be able to contact Tyrian despite his confinement within Atlas and passes along a message for him directly to Salem.

Hazel Rainart[]

Despite working in the same faction, Tyrian and Hazel had an unfriendly if not outright hostile relationship with each other. After Hazel returned from Haven alongside Emerald and Mercury, Tyrian welcomed them to Evernight Castle only to sadistically mock them for their failure at Haven Academy to which Hazel responded by glaring at him and telling Emerald and Mercury to ignore him.

Cinder's Faction[]

Cinder Fall[]

V4 01 00036

Tyrian easily infuriates Cinder.

Tyrian appears to hold Cinder in low regard. He mocks her repeatedly after the loss of her left eye, and when Ruby believes that Cinder is the "goddess" that Tyrian refers to, he scoffs at the notion that she is worthy of such a title. He is also comfortable enough in her presence to show his grief and mania when he disappoints Salem. However, Cinder shows clear discomfort and horror while watching his reaction.

Further showing his low regard for Cinder was how he mocked Emerald and Mercury over Cinder's supposed death. However, he was not visibly displeased when Salem revealed that she was still alive.

As seen in "Divide ", upon Cinder's return and redemption to Salem, Tyrian still showed delight at insulting and belittling her for her past failures and made a point of constantly threatening her.

In "Midnight", Tyrian showed delight at Cinder's frustration after Salem openly complemented him in getting in contact with Watts regarding successfully getting a level of control over the Winter Maiden.

Emerald Sustrai[]

V6 04 Complete Version

"Careful, little girl. Cinder isn't here to protect you anymore."

In "So That's How It Is", Tyrian is easily able to irritate Emerald with Cinder's supposed death, causing the girl to lash out at him. This does nothing as the Faunus moves in on her and warns her that she does not have her master's protection, frightening her. In "Lost", Tyrian mocks Emerald for not loving what she does as part of Salem's group, inflicting further salt on the wound of Cinder's absence.

In "War", after Emerald learned of Salem's true goal and argued with Mercury about what to do, Tyrian inserted himself into their conversation and again made a point of subtly intimidating the two to fall in line as he collected Mercury for their mission to Vacuo. Tyrian in particular all but confirmed their belief that Salem was out to destroy the world and belittled them for having just realized it.

Emerald in turn showed clear fear and intimidation for Tyrian due to realizing how suicidal and destructive he really was and only increased her concern for Mercury after the two were ordered by Salem to head to Vacuo and work together.

Mercury Black[]

In "Lost", Tyrian mocks Mercury about knowing only pain and violence in his life, and is easily able to pin him to the ground. Likely seeing himself in Mercury, Tyrian told him that if he doesn't love working for Salem, then he's in the wrong profession; he encouraged him to do what he loves.

V8 07 00082

Invading Mercury's personal space as he collects him for their departure to Vacuo.

In "War", Tyrian was assigned as Mercury's partner and were ordered to head to Vacuo together, presumably in preparation for Salem's eventual arrival to the Kingdom.

He later arrives when both Mercury and Emerald are discussing what the latter learned about Salem's true goal, inserting himself into their conversation and personally made a point of subtly threatening the duo to continue complying in Salem's orders and belittled them due to just realizing her true goal. This has caused Mercury to question his loyalty to her before being dragged away Tyrian to their Manta.

Neopolitan[]

Tyrian meets Neo in "Divide", showing sarcastic concern for her not becoming one of the sacrifices needed to bring down Atlas.

Team RWBY[]

Ruby Rose[]

V4 06 00052

Tyrian vs. Ruby

Tyrian is very eager to hunt Ruby down, and is planning to take one of her eyes in retaliation for Cinder's similar injury, though given Tyrian's interactions with Cinder, this appears to simply be his justification for wanting to bring down the young Huntress to sate his general bloodlust and to raise his standing in Salem's eyes.

During his fight with Team RNJR, he declares his purpose to take Ruby with him. After depleting her Aura, he attempts to deliver a severe blow on her with his scorpion tail.

After the fight with Team RNJR and Qrow, Tyrian calls Ruby a bitch for cutting off his stinger.

Team JNPR[]

Jaune Arc[]

Tyrian expresses an interest in Jaune for unknown reasons in "Tipping Point". It's possible Tyrian saw his potential as a hunter and let him live so he could be a worthy target to kill one day.

Ozpin's Group[]

Qrow Branwen[]

V7 11 00101

Tyrian's second fight with Qrow.

When Tyrian is about to sting Ruby, Qrow steps in and blocks his attack. Tyrian reveals that he knows Qrow and calls him a true Huntsman. The two of them fight, and it is shown that they are equally matched. When Ruby intervenes, Tyrian manages to graze Qrow with his stinger, before Ruby slices his stinger off.

In "With Friends Like These", during Qrow's fight against Clover and Tyrian, he suggests Qrow that they should work together temporarily to take down Clover and then settle the score between them. After Clover's Aura depleted, Tyrian double-crossed Qrow, framing him by taking his weapon and impaling Clover from behind.

As seen in the events of Volume 8, Qrow now harbors a deep grudge against Tyrian and is now making plans to track down and kill him.

Others[]

F. Pickerel[]

Tyrian's relationship with F. Pickerel is largely unknown but given that Pickerel was the one to finally catch him it can be assumed that the two were likely on hostile terms. Pickerel for his part seemed to greatly fear and hate Tyrian to the point of saying that he was a flight risk and that the ship that was taking Tyrian to Atlas needed better security. His warnings were seen as unjustified paranoia by the Atlas Military and he was quietly removed from the case for his troubles.

Later, sometime after the ship was attacked by Grimm and Tyrian was believed dead, Pickerel was eventually found dead in his home. It can be assumed that Tyrian was the one who killed him out of revenge.

Clover Ebi[]

He is the one who murdered Clover by using Harbinger and framed Qrow for his actions.

Robyn Hill[]

Tyrian seems to hold Robyn in low regard referring to her a "little bird" and in "Out in the Open" claims he finds the hope she inspires "upsetting".
