Ruby and Summer Rose are kneeling beneath the full moon in the opening credits to Vol1, red and white rose petals flurrying behind their cloaks. I wonder if there is significance tied to their magical presence beneath the moon and the shattered state of the moon, although that is unlikely because that would require 16yr old Ruby to cause 15yr old Ruby to enter a time portal similar to what Raven uses, back to the time when Summer was still alive and aid her mother in silver eyes magic so powerful that it shatters the moon, presumably to freeze/destroy all grimm creatures in the land of Remnant forevermore. Such a use of power could cause Ruby and Summer to die, explaining Summer's death but not explaining Ruby's paradox. This "theory" has as many holes in it as the moon has craters, but maybe my far fetched idea will inspire someone to look into the Vol 1 scene more closely and discover more clues than I did that will lead to the truth. Why were Ruby and Summer kneeling beneath the full moon with rose petals flying in Vol1? And relatedly or unrelatedly, Why did the moon shatter? What Remnant myths are there about the moon? I am looking forward to discovering the answers as RWBY continues! :)
