The problem with BMBLB is that it is too vague compared to the other love songs. It also lacks any direct references. People respond by saying that the song has puns and says the love interest chased away the singer's darkness and gloom. To that I say is that you think the core of Yang's character is puns? Is that the only thing Jeff could have used to characterize Yang? That's the weakest connection to a character compared to Boop, Dream Come True, and Like Morning Follows Night. Also their darkness and gloom was chased away. How? The song doesnt explain how. Again compare this to the other previously mentioned songs they explain exactly what a character has done to improve their lives. With this vague lyric this could literally be applied to Arkos, BlackSun, and Renora. The song lacks depth. LMFN, for example, is on the surface about Blake abandoning her friends in order to protect them and Sun convincing her that her actions are hurting her friends more and that he will always be there for her. But the song also highlights the relationship between Blake and Sun thats been developing since Volume 1. Blake constantly runs away and Sun is always there to listen and share her burden. Blake has always felt close to Sun due to their shared Faunus nature. Blake shares her history with Sun as well as expects Sun to understand her stuggles and motivations. Sun is also the anti-Blake. Sun embraces his Faunus nature while Blake hides hers. Blake tries to exclude her friends from her problems while Sun believes that friends should always be involved. When Blake gives up, Sun continues to move forward and tries to help Blake do the same. The song also implies that Sun is hiding a dark past. This song showcases the deep friendship and dynamic that's been developing throughout the whole series. BMBLB is about a girl wanting to make love with another girl because reasons. Context is also lacking in BMBLB. You think Yang and Blake are constantly thinking about getting in each other's pants? Especially in Volume 4? It doesnt match their current mindset. If the core of the Bumbleby ship are puns, making love, and simply brightening up their day, then Bumbleby is the most shallow ship in the series.
