Given what we know of the character's mindsets, I wouldn't be surprised if Tai and Summer had feelings for one another, while Raven and Qrow respected their individual talents;
Thus Raven decided to outdo Summer by taking the target of her affection(possibly after being told about them by Summer) and boldly engage in a relationship with him first(to show she was the strongest), which eventually failed because there wasn't enough love there on either(both or one) side, possibly leaving the others because when Tai left her and accepted Summer, it made Raven feel as though she was being shown to be weak, which Raven's ego would not allow for, so her mind blocked out that past life and now only concentrates singlemindedly on her life in the clan.
Except from how Tai described Raven in a positive light, I think his side of the love was genuine.
My personal guess:
-Tai had his eyes on Raven since the academy days.
-Summer had feelings for Tai but recognized his affection for Raven and left them alone.
-Raven respected Tai's strength so she and Tai got married and Raven got pregnant with Yang.
-The couple had a falling out at some point before the birth.
-Raven bore Yang and left her with Tai to lead the bandit tribe that raise her and Qrow.
-Summer volunteers to help Tai whose struggling to take care of Yang and to come to grips of his failed marriage.
-Tai recognizes Summer's feelings for him and develops feelings for her.
-They get together and conceive Ruby.
