From what i've seen, RWBY seems to be a one-shot deal. It seems to have just a season one. it's not even labeled season 1, episode #. i'm hoping its going to be like rvb, where they never expected to go on but they will...
i'm saddened.

Now THAT has some great potential and I’m also hoping this is going to be the case, with Cardin acting more distant towards his team because of the…you know…leaving him to die bit…

Seriously, his team abandoned him and he ended up being saved by the kid they were all bullying. That should have been a total wake-up call. Personally, I pin Russel and Sky as the ones most likely to remain jerks.
Dove appears to be an enabler. He doesn't actively participate in the racism towards Velvet nor does he place his hands on Jaune (Cardin punches him and Sky kicks him). He's definitely a jerk, reaping entertainment from Cardin and Russel's teasing of Velvet but he doesn't appear to be more than an accessory to violence at this stage.
There’s also Russels Max Pain design to consider since it contrasts really hard with the rest of the team…I imagine there is a reason for that.
Ok I’ll bite…how did you do that? The closest hint we got that I can think of was seeing his voice actor dual wield during the second production diary.

Physiology. If you look at every other male student and their weapon, there's a realistic connection to the equipment that they use. It's the girls that have the outrageous weapons.
Jaune has an average build, and uses a sword and shield, a more balanced weapons combination. Ren is lightly built, and uses lighter weapons - the StormFlowers. Cardin is bulky, and uses a weapon that suits a high-level kinetic motion, his mace. Sun is in-between Jaune and Ren in build, and his weapon suits the split between flexibility and strength that such a physical build would grant.
Now, look at Russel. He's just as skinny as Ren, so no big heavy tools for him. So, when working on the first two chapters of my fanfic, I tried to come up with weapons for the remaining members of team CRDL, and Russel screamed "dual-wielded knives" to fit with the more close-quarters style of Team CRDL's designs. In order to fit the RWBY-verse, I made them rocket-knives, so that he could throw them and then have them explode, or use the thrust to help increase the kinetic energy of his stabs, the same way Ruby uses the recoil of Crescent Rose to increase it's cutting potential. And then it turns out that of my three predictions, I was correct in one case - Russel does indeed have knives. So maybe, just maybe, I've got the full prediction right and they shall be rocket knives, but only time shall tell there. I just hold that I predicted Russel had knives before anyone else.
They could just double as guns, like basically every other weapon in this series.
They COULD, but I found rocket knives cooler and less likely to mimic Ren's bladed small-caliber firearm thing.
personally, I'm expecting the gun to be a high enough calliber for the shooting to actually do something recoil wise, either recoiling the blade backwards to allow the user to repeatedly slash without pausing, or forwards to increase the force of the strikes. Either of those would work, and he certainly seems to have some kind of mechanism in the blades that would imply that.
